Attention is the real platform risk

The feed is not only a distribution channel. It is an environment that trains your nervous system.

Most builders talk about platform risk as if it only means APIs, algorithms, and distribution. Those matter, but the quieter risk is what the platform does to your attention while you keep feeding it.

If your best ideas need boredom, wandering, and long quiet passes, then a day chopped into reaction loops is not a neutral workday. It is a tax on the exact mind you need to build.

The hidden cost

The cost is not the post. The cost is the residue. You open the feed for ten minutes and carry the room back into the work: other people's launches, fake urgency, borrowed ambition, status games wearing useful clothes.

That residue changes what you are willing to attempt. It makes the useful thing feel too slow.

A better operating rule

I try to split the day into two rooms:

  • Input room: reading, market notes, customer calls, code reviews.
  • Output room: writing, building, decisions, offers.

The rooms can talk to each other. They cannot live in the same tab.

The best system is not the one that blocks distraction. It is the one that protects the shape of your attention before distraction appears.

That is the real platform risk. Not losing reach. Losing the inner room where your judgment compounds.
